Boiling Springs is located in north central Spartanburg County which is the largest closest city.
By all rights, the name of the town should be Boiling Spring because there was only one spring. But when the area was settled in the late 1700s, that spring was something to see! People came from all around to watch the water shoot six feet into the air.The geyser diminished gradually over the years. In the 1930s it had become a shallow, barely bubbling stream and today the water is still.
In 1960 Lake Bowen was finished as a water source and recreational facility. So even though the spring is no longer there, water is still a big attraction for those living in and visiting Boiling Springs.
